Google to Launch Google Drive, the Dropbox Killer?

Google will soon launch Google Drive, a cloud-based storage service that allows people to store photos, documents and videos on Google's servers, according to a report, a similar service like Dropbox, Box.net, Apple iCloud, or Microsoft's SkyDrive.

In line with the rapid growth of activity over the Internet and mobile devices, this latest Google's effort by bringing cloud-storage to get more users of its service seems to be a logical expansion of its services, considering that Google already has a large infrastructure to support its existing variety of online services.

Many users are already using various free services from Google like Gmail accounts, Documents stores, Google Music for audio uploads, Picasa for storing photo and video galleries, and also Youtube for publishing videos, each accommodating several gigabytes of content.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Google Drive is expected to launch in the coming weeks or months. Like Dropbox, it will be offered as a free service for most consumers and businesses, and will charge a fee only to those who want to store a large amount of files. It's said that Google's initiative aims to offer such storage for a smaller fee compared to other services like Dropbox or Box.net.

Google Drive is also expected to be added to its suite of online software that it sells to businesses, called Google Apps, and also Google Drive apps for mobile devices, for uploading photos and video directly to the cloud store.
